What is the difference between OLED, LED and QLED panels?

The trade off is peak brightness, which is lower than the brightest LED designs, and a theoretical risk of image retention if a static logo or news ticker sits in the same place for hours every day.
LED and QLED are both backlit LCD panels. The difference is the light conversion layer: QLED adds a quantum dot film that produces purer, brighter colour, while standard LED relies on a white backlight and colour filters. Both depend on how the backlight is controlled. Edge lit sets are thin and cheap but show uneven brightness; full array local dimming sets cost more and produce deeper blacks by dimming zones independently.
In practice, the choice comes down to the room. A bright room with large windows favours a QLED or high brightness LED set, because it must fight ambient light. A darker room with controlled lighting favours OLED, where contrast matters more than raw brightness. How are cables, ARC and eARC used between a television and a soundbar?
The audio return channel, or ARC, lets a television send sound to a soundbar over the same HDMI cable that already carries video, which removes the need for a separate optical cable. Enhanced ARC, or eARC, increases the bandwidth of that return path, so it can carry uncompressed and higher bitrate formats such as Dolby TrueHD and DTS HD Master Audio. ARC is limited to compressed formats, which is usually fine for streaming apps but not for a disc player feeding lossless audio.
Three conditions must be met for either to work. The television must have an HDMI port labelled ARC or eARC, the soundbar must support the same standard, and the cable must be capable. A standard High Speed HDMI cable handles ARC; eARC generally needs a Premium High Speed or Ultra High Speed cable. A small room of around 15 square metres is served by a two channel or 2.1 soundbar with a small subwoofer, while a larger living room benefits from a three channel bar that keeps dialogue anchored to the centre. A bar with a separate subwoofer usually outperforms an all in one unit of the same price, because the cabinet volume for bass is not shared with the mid range drivers.
Placement also matters. A soundbar sitting inside a low cabinet reflects sound off the shelf and muddies dialogue; it should sit at or near ear height, ideally on the front edge of the furniture or wall mounted below the screen. If the bar supports room correction, run it after installation, not before, because the calibration measures the actual position of the speakers and the listener.
How does energy labelling affect the choice?
The European Union energy label for televisions runs from A to G, with the scale recalibrated in 2021 so that the most efficient models sit at the top and the least efficient at the bottom. The label also reports the energy consumption in kWh per 1000 hours in standard dynamic range and in high dynamic range, which is the figure that matters for a set used mostly for films and series in HDR.
Standby consumption is listed separately and is usually small, often under 0.5 watts, but it adds up across a household with several devices. A television, a soundbar, a games console and a streaming box left in standby can consume more over a year than expected. A switched power strip solves most of it, at the cost of losing instant on and scheduled recordings.
When is it better to repair than replace?
The decision usually turns on the cost of the repair against the price of a comparable new unit, and on the age of the device. A failed power supply or a single HDMI port on a television that is three or four years old is often worth repairing, because the panel, which is the most expensive component, is still sound. A cracked panel or a failed backlight on an older set is rarely economical.
Repairability also varies by design. Sets with accessible boards and standard screws are easier to service than sealed units with glued assemblies.
